Carlos Gimenez

Gimenez is the current mayor of Miami-Dade County who has reached the end of his term. He has served since 2011. Formerly the fire chief of the City of Miami’s Fire Department, Gimenez has based his current campaign on reducing tax rates and spending. He got 60% of the vote in the August primaries, winning the Republican nomination in Florida’s 26th Congressional District.


Debbie Mucarsel-Powell

Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is the current representative of Florida’s 26th Congressional District in the U.S. House. Powell is seeking reelection after winning the seat in 2018’s midterm election. Her current campaign focuses on expanding healthcare for all, raising the minimum wage for Floridians and creating a plan for debt free community college. Powell has also worked towards closing the Homestead Detention Center for Migrant Children, and is in support of extending Temporary Protective Status for Venezuelans and Haitians.


Maria Elvira Salazar

Salazar, a former broadcaster for Spanish-language television, is once again battling Shalala for District 27 after unsuccessfully pursuing the seat last election cycle. As a journalist, Salazar interviewed several social and political leaders, including Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Alvaro Uribe, Jose Maria Aznar, Vicente Fox, Juan Manuel Santos, Augusto Pinochet, Nicolas Maduro and Juan Guaidó. The Miami native, whose parents fled Fidel Castro's regime in Cuba, has focused her campaign on job growth and an anti-socialism message.


Donna Shalala

The current U.S. House representative of Florida’s 27th District first won the seat in 2018. She is now seeking reelection. Shalala has built her 2020 campaign around education and climate change. Last year, she co-sponsored House Resolution 58, which increased pay for public school teachers as well as public education funding. Shalala is also in support of rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, which would cut the United States’ greenhouse gas emissions by 26% by 2025.
