LISTEN: Can you hear it? Researchers often pick up or record these "bubble blasts" from gray whales after the whale produces a massive amount of bubbles underwater. Researcher Aaron Thode says this bubble blast is often an antagonistic or aggressive display between whales.
LISTEN: That's not a conga drum you're hearing. Researcher Ludovic Tenorio-Hallé says this is one of the most common calls from gray whales recorded in the whales’ breeding ground of Laguna San Ignacio in Baja California.
