Blurred Lines: Many School Districts Fail to Clearly Define the Role of Campus Police

The NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit contacted all 161 school districts throughout the Bay Area’s 9 counties to collect information regarding campus security and the use of law enforcement during the 2015-2016 school year. Of the 47 school districts in the Bay Area that hire law enforcement to regularly patrol schools, the Investigative Unit found 21 of those school districts fail to outline the specific roles and responsibilities of campus police officers.
