FDA Inspections of Cord Blood Banks

According to the FDA, there are 310 facilities registered to store umbilical cord blood in the United States. But the FDA only inspects a fraction of them annually, “averaging approximately 30 inspections of cord blood establishments each year. The number includes both private and public cord blood banks.” The FDA is mandated to inspect public banks every two years, but it “uses a risk-based approach when deciding how often private cord banks are to be inspected.

These are the blood banks the FDA inspected since 2005.
