They did so in emphatic fashion, beating the Yankees 10-3 after David Ortiz kicked things off by hitting a 2-run homer off the first pitch Kevin Brown threw him.

St. Louis would tie that game up before the Sox went on to win it en route to a sweep and their first championship in 86 years.

David Price, then the ace of the Tampa Bay Rays, yielded seven runs to the Red Sox in seven plus innings of Game 2 of the ALDS. Two of those runs were solo homers by David Ortiz. He stood and admired the second of these bombs, which brought the team ahead 7-4 in the 8th and got Price lifted in the 8th. Though the players made up when they became teammates this year, the game kicked off an extended stretch of animosity that saw Price plunk Papi the following May.
